“that no one should be shaken by these afflictions; for you
yourselves know that we are appointed to this”
1 Thessalonians 3
“For you yourselves know that we are appointed to this.”
The cost of our salvation was paid for in much affliction, the
removal of sin from us was no small thing, only God Himself could
make the payment for that removal. The life of the Christian if
you haven’t figured out by now is one that trouble is part of the
growing of our faith. Peter wrote: 1Peter 4:12, "Beloved, do not
think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as
though some strange thing happened to you; 13 but rejoice to
the extent that you partake of Christs sufferings, that when His
glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.
The pain and suffering of our salvation is to learn and live by
faith. This turning away from a life directed by the sinful nature
we were born with now meets the Spirit of God living in us. Why
would we not think the
pain and suffering our Lord went
through, would have a cost in us to complete the understanding of
this great salvation that has been given to us?
